TITLE: Attorney - SEIU Local 1199

1199 SEIU New York is the largest health care union in the country representing over 240,000 hospital, nursing home, home care and human service workers. 1199 is committed to organizing to increase our membership to raise standards in the health care industry and to building a strong democratic union focused on membership participation and leadership development.

Job Description:

  • As a member of our team, you will represent the Union in arbitration matters;
  • Prepare and present testimonials and documentary evidences at arbitrations;
  • Cross examine witnesses at arbitrations, patient abuse hearings and other proceedings;
  • Research and analyze law sources such as recorded arbitration decisions and legal articles;
  • Prepare legal documents and maintenance of document file.

Job Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with a health care institution or non-profit organization preferred
  • Ability to work independently, ability to multi-task and have excellent follow-up skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to deal effectively with staff, members and the general public
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Some computer experience required
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work long hours
  • Some travel within New York State required

Preferences: Admittance to the New York State Bar Association a plus
