TABLE 3 - Clarify Existing Definition of Serious Injury or Illness
CONCEPT DETAIL SECTION
DEFINES a SERIOUS INJURY or ILLNESS as (relates to the EXCEPTION in LC 6401.8 (b)) inpatient admission for either hospitalization or emergency room observation and treatment , or
loss of any member of the body
any serious degree of permanent disfigurement
fracture of a major bone
third degree burns
substantial loss of body system function including organ impairment due to chronic or acute work-related disease,
does not include injury / illness / death caused by a Penal Code violation, except PC 385, or an accident on a public street or highway
