DENISE ABRAMS: Partner at Kazan McClain Abrams Lyons Greenwood & Harley; admitted to California Bar (1986); Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California (J.D., 1986); University of Rhode Island (B.A., 1972); University of Maryland (M.A., 1975, Ph.D., 1983.)
Prior to going to law school I taught sociology and women's studies at the University of Maryland and Antioch College in Ohio. However, I wanted what I did to benefit people more directly than I felt was possible as an academic, and this led me to the practice of law. I joined The Firm as a law clerk in 1984 and subsequently became an associate and then principal.
I am a member of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, the National Lawyers Guild, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Consumers Attorneys of California, the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, and the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association (Member of Board of Governors in 1990.) I am also on the board of the East Bay Community Law Center and the board of the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS).
I have a keen interest in occupational health and safety issues, and have been Chairperson and a Board member of the Santa Clara County Committee on Occupational Safety and Health, since 1991.
